SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS EMMA

More and more companies are advocating sustainable entrepreneurship. EMMA has made a practical contribution to the goals of companies in this area by being the first in the world to offer sustaineble safety shoes, including return logistics. By using sustaineble shoes, EMMA customers are helping to consume raw materials and energy responsibly, while at the same time, people can be employed sustainably. Together, we are helping achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals that must be achieved worldwide by 2030. EMMA comes into contact with several Sustainable Development Goals through its work. EMMA has selected three Sustainable Development Goals as the primary aims for its own organisation. EMMA measures its results in these three goals via Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The selected goals are 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

From EMMA's perspective, the following areas of focus fall under #8:

  1. Ensuring good working conditions for staff throughout the supply chain.
  2. Providing employment for all (fair wages, including work for people who are in a vulnerable position on the labour market).
  3. Providing a safe working environment with respect for human rights.

For #9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), EMMA is focused on the following aspects:

  1. Using environmentally-friendly technologies and processes
  2. Upgrading innovation and technological capabilities, especially in less developed countries
  3. Return logistics
  4. A sustainable production environment.

For EMMA, the sub-goals of SDG #12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) are:

  1. Implement measures regarding environmental management (ISO 14001)
  2. Use already recycled material
  3. Reuse raw materials and work in a sustaineble way (also ensuring next use applications)
  4. Use natural resources efficiently
  5. Handle chemicals and waste responsibly
  6. Avoid waste; recycle and reuse
  7. Encourage other companies to adopt sustainable practices and include them in their reporting activities, in order to raise awareness.
  8. Promote public procurement practices
  9. Give people everywhere access to relevant sustainability information
  10. Support developing countries in strengthening their technological and scientific capacities to manufacture and consume more sustainably.
